Honduras Adoption

This program is: open
Children available for adoption include boys and girls, from infants to older children, healthy and special needs. These children reside in orphanages; once a referral is accepted, the child may be placed in foster care at adopting parent's expense. In 2001 (latest available), U.S. citizens adopted approximately 9 children from Honduras.

Travel required: Both (if married) must travel to present their petition; one may make a second trip or remain in-country with the child until finalization, which can take several months.
Singles accepted: Yes
Other: No private adoptions allowed; caution if presented with a private opportunity. Parents may refuse a referral for good reason, but a second refusal will terminate the application. Post-placement reports required until the child reaches the age of 14.
